Living Up To Your Assignment

Ephesians 2:10 AMP
For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

Every title and every role has an assignment attached to it. Such as a doctor. He/she provides extensive care and treatment to the patients. A chef is someone who cooks, preps and creates delicious sweet and savory recipes for everyone to enjoy. A singer is someone who skillfully sings by using their vocal cords to create a beautiful sound. A musician is someone who can skillfully play an instrument or more.

Got it? Now let’s talk about The Church.

A pastor is a person that oversees and stewards his/her assigned people. While Jesus is our ultimate intercessor, an intercessor is someone who stands in the gap and intercedes on behalf of someone.

So as you can see, each title, each role, has an assignment attached it to.

Whether you are gifted or not, your assignment requires extensive studying, training, learning, unlearning, practicing, and tests to help you and qualify you that you can live up to the assignment according to that particular role.

However, when it comes to serving God and fulfilling His assignment for you, the only thing you need to successfully live up to the assignment is the Holy Spirit.

John 14: 26 AMP
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

We may be gifted but we need the Holy Spirit to live up to the assignment not just on Sundays or midweek service, but even in our daily lives. Some can skillfully sing, but it’s the Holy Spirit that worketh within us to cause the sound that comes out of our mouths to cause a shift in the atmosphere. Furthermore, there is spiritual warfare that comes with your assignment. We need the Holy Spirit to combat it because carnal weapons aren’t worth a cent, but when we weld the word of God that has power when we submit unto the Holy Spirit, we build more resilience and perseverance, which will help us to overcome spiritual warfare.

So how do we live up to our assignment???

Submit to the Lord

God needs our full compliance, our full cooperation, and OBEDIENCE. He needs us to be holy because He is holy. [1 Peter 1:16] We must abide in Him as He abides us. [John 15:4-9] Be about God’s business in your life and He will take care of yours. [Matthew 6:33]. Submitting to God is more of a partner relationship and a covenant that God had with Abraham. He wants to work WITH you. Remember, God is not a dictator, but He is a gentleman that has given us the power to make our own choices. Therefore, He wants you to make that honorable decision to willfully submit to Him or the mothers of the church would say “Give God your YES!”. But be aware that your “yes” to God does come with circumstances, but fear not (as the Lord would say), He will help you navigate through those circumstances. Cause that’s what your partner does. They cover you and protect you.

Get to know YOUR assignment

NOT your mother, father, your pastor, your favorite social media influencer, your siblings, your best friend, your favorite gospel celebrity, your favorite singer, actor, etc. THE ASSIGNMENT THAT GOD HAS FOR YOU IS ONLY MEANT FOR YOU TO COMPLETE. It’s not an accident that you were given that assignment. God knows exactly what He is doing when He chose you. Just like in Ephesians 2:10, the Lord prepared us BEFOREHAND so we can walk in them. This means, when it's time for you to walk in your assignment, you will be ready for it no matter how you feel like you’re not ready or it’s not under the “right” circumstance. God purposely chose YOU.

To know your assignment, you must get to know God. Spend time with Him in prayer, in worship, and in His Word. As you live out your daily routines in life, in due time, the Lord will show you what is your assignment. But remember, your assignment is uniquely designed for you to complete.

“Well Keisha, that person is already doing what God told me to do.” …DO IT ANYWAYS.

There are thousands of different brands of bread but there are people that only buy a particular bread that caters to them. Like Burger King vs. McDonalds. Like Wal-Mart vs. Publix. They both sell the same thing, but their quality is different. The harvest is plenty and yet the laborers are few. This means that there is so much to do in the Kingdom of God, but there are enough disciples or Christians to do the works! Can God hire you? (I’ve written a blog about that and if you want to read more of it click here.) The people that I can reach with my assignment, are assigned to me but not to you. The people that you can reach with your assignment, are assigned to you, but not to me or anyone else.

“This assignment is unorthodox. I don’t know if my close friends, family, or my church will understand it.” …DO IT ANYWAYS.

We serve a God that can do impossible things that are beyond our comprehension. Which is Proverbs 3:5-6 advises us to trust God always and don’t rely on our own or the world’s understanding. So, trust God in each area of your life and trust God with your assignment. This leads me to this point…

Embrace your assignment

So you know your assignment, but you’re neglecting your assignment. You know your assignment, but you are afraid of it because it’s so “big”. You know your assignment, but you don’t know if you’re qualified or worthy or actually can live up to it. Let me help you with those wondering thoughts:

You are qualified. In God, you are enough. Got imperfections? Ha! God knows about it and He is going to use it for His glory and confound the wise [1 Corinthians 1:27]. Don’t have the resources or the money to complete it? Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to provide it. Simple to say these things, but it’s the truth that we must remember. We honestly do not have any excuses.

You’re hiding your skills, talents, and gifts, or you rather use them for something else. Thousands and thousands of people are attached to your assignment. Your “Yes” to God will save someone’s life and even your own. Take your assignment seriously. Until you realize that you are vital in the Kingdom of God, you will understand that the assignment that God has given to you is important as well. Be a good steward(manager) of what God has given to you. Whether it’s your mentee group, your ministry, your business, your talents, your children, etc.

All in all, you need the Holy Spirit to help you to do ALL these things and more. God never asked us to do it by ourselves. He is asking us to work WITH Him. To trust in Him. To abide in Him. To be obedient to Him. To love and honor Him. To LIVE for Him. Are you ready to live up to your assignment? The Lord is waiting for you.
